Carnelian is a stone of the agate class of chalcedony symbolizing
creativity, individuality and courage. The Romans prized chalcedony
and Renaissance magic used them for health and safety. Carnelian has
been used to heal open sores, rejuvenate tissues and cells, cure
rheumatism, kidney stones and other kidney problems, gall stones,
colds, pollen allergies, and neuralgia.
Carnelian is said to ease or remove sorrows, to banish fear,
hysteria, depression, mental illness and sadness. It also helps
stabilize energies in the home. It is sometimes called the "actor's
stone." Like all agates, carnelian is believed to have
protection energies to protect from anger, jealousy and fear. It
helps to manifest one's desires, assists in finding the right mate
and brings good luck. And, as well, it can aid memory, including
recall of past lives. It is worn by many to promote calm and peace.
Jasper was known as the great "rain-bringer" in the fourth
century. Healing properties attributed to jasper included a belief
that wearing it strengthened the stomach and cured gynecological
problems. Jasper was believed to drive away evil spirits and protect
against snake and spider bites.
Because of its appearance, Tiger Eye was thought to be all seeing and
Roman soldiers wore it for protection in battle. Tiger eye was
thought to relieve high blood pressure and help in the presence of
bronchial, asthma, kidney, rheumatic heart diseases, and psoriasis.
Tiger Eye was used to focus the mind. It is said that Tiger Eye was
beneficial for the weak and sick, offered protection during travel,
strengthened convictions and confidence.
